Abandoned Winter Championship Heat

Heat 7 of the Winter Championship Series to be held at Hamilton today has been abandoned, with today’s Hamilton meeting abandoned owing to the condition of the track.

Stewards inspected the track this morning and deemed it unsuitable for racing after 10mm of rain fell since 5pm Saturday night on a track that was already rated a Heavy 10.

Stewards found surface water between the 1900m and 1600m marks and again over the last 50m of the Western Districts track during this morning's inspection.

Under the conditions of the series, a special clause states: In the event of a heat of this Series being abandoned or declared a “no-race”, final acceptors remaining in such heat, at the time of such abandonment or declaration of “no-race”, shall be allocated one (1) point. Refer to complete conditions HERE.

Therefore, the following acceptors today at Hamilton (full field here) will receive 1 point.

This will take the only horses that threatened to equal or become points leader outright Nicastro to 11 points and Yokozuna to 10 points. Therefore Tough Future and Dr Nipandtuck will go into the final on Saturday on equal joint leaders on 18 points, making both horses eligible for the $50,000 bonus.

TROA, supported by LUXBET, is directly offering a $50,000 cash bonus to the connections of a horse that earns the highest or equal highest number of points in the 2011 TROA/LUXBET Winter Championship Series Heats and then subsequently wins the Series Final. In the case of a dead heat for first placing in the Series Final, horses eligible for the bonus involved in the dead heat will earn an equal share of the $50,000 bonus. If only one horse involved in the dead heat for first placing is eligible for the bonus, that horse will earn the entire $50,000 amount of the bonus.
