Jacquie Little’s great new novel, Starting Price, is now available at the introductory price of $30.
It tells the story of Ryan Miller, an ex cop with racing roots, joins the stewards department at the National Racing Commission, he is initially assigned menial duties. It doesn’t take him long to discover that a pervading sense of disquiet surrounds his department.
Keen to make a go of his new career he says nothing but things change when a prominent jockey is found murdered and Ryan’s investigative skills are called into action.
The more Ryan digs into the life of the jockey and those associated with him, the more intriguing the situation becomes. Calling on unconventional contacts made during his days in the police force, Ryan unearths a trial of deceit, revenge and blackmail inside the sport of kings.

Some good new for owners prizemoney increases in Victoria
Victorian owners can gain some relief from the heat and the economic pressures today when the second wave of the promised prizemoney increases are implemented.
The main features of the increases are a new provincial minimum of $12,000 with Thursday minimums raised to $15000, Wednesday metropolitan and night minimums of $30,000 and a new Saturday minimum of $70,000.
Whilst recognising that further lifts in provincial and country prizemonies are paramount these increases at the base level are particularly pleasing to TROA as we have long advocated their need in order to maintain the viability of racing horses for all owners in the face of ever increasing costs of participation.
We will continue our campaign for total accountability in the administration of racing in Victoria to ensure every dollar possible is directed into supporting owners through prizemoney.
